How we deprive ourselves from healing??

A 40 year old woman came in my OPD, with some vague complaints. She was constantly linking all her problems to some advice given and may be forced on her by her mother in law years ago after her first delivery. I listened patiently. I examined thoroughly. It was a minor issue with no connection to what she was thinking. When I explained her what I thought, she started crying. She was carrying that baggage from her past for all these years. She was grateful that I finally helped her to get rid of that haunting past. She had met many doctors who advised surgery but no one told her that her present condition was not linked to what she thought. She said I already feel better.
This incident forced me to think about the unnecessary and at times silly baggage we carry from the past. We don't let ourselves heal. It's not very difficult to free ourselves from such long held notions. Remember the famous quote " To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner was you".
