After confirming Pregnancy

Now when you know that you are pregnant, relax. Don’t think too much

about the future. Keeping present in mind, the first thing you need to do is

to make sure you take care of your health. If you have not taken a doctor’s

appointment then do it right away. Find out the best gynecologists in your

area. Check out with your friends and family about the doctor. Also, you

need to make sure the hospital is not very far away, as you will have to

regularly visit the doctor until your delivery. Take your partner or someone

along with you, you will feel less stressful.

At your first visit to your doctor, discuss about the symptoms that you are

going through. Also, discuss on the medications you need to take. Usually

the doctor will prescribe folic acid tablets that you need to take every day

for first three months of pregnancy. Folic acid before and during pregnancy

can help prevent birth defects of your baby's brain and spinal cord. Some

doctors also prescribe progesterone tablets. Like my doctor did.

Progesterone helps maintain a supportive environment for the developing

fetus. Follow your doctor’s advice on this. The doctor will also do an

ultrasound scan. If you are less than 6 weeks pregnant, there is a very less

possibility that you will see anything on the ultrasound machine. At six

weeks, you will only see a small dot, which your doctor will say is your

baby. Based on your Last menstrual period and the scan result, she will

give you your due date.

What else than, just relax and let the hormones do their work.

During the first few weeks of your pregnancy, you can do all your normal

chores. Just make sure you do not lift heavy objects and do not exert

yourself too much. If you are working, do your job normally. However, do

take some breaks in the middle. I had an office job, so I would regularly

take break after every 2 hours, take a round of the office and would come

back and start work again. I continued this till the day I worked (almost till 7

months of pregnancy).

For travelling to your job, don’t take a transport that exerts you a lot.

Choose a transport system that is less crowded and which do not give your

body much jerks. If possible, go by your own car or a taxi. Avoid using 2

wheeler. You can travel by an auto rickshaw and ask the driver to go on

slow speed.
